Dirk,
yes perhaps there comes some light in the darkeness with the possible interrogating of the two, but as I read it from these links, there were questions around the conviction of al-Megrahi:
https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-43987079In December it will be 30 years since the bombing, Britain's worst terrorist outrage. After a trial in the Netherlands Megrahi was the only man to be convicted - but following a four-year investigation by the SCCRC, he began a second appeal which he abandoned in 2009. Why he did this has always been a matter for conjecture.
Many people point to the
"Deal in the Desert" between Tony Blair and the Libyan leader Colonel Gadaffi as forming part of the pressure put on the Scottish government. Its Justice Secretary,
Kenny MacAskill visited Megrahi in Greenock Prison shortly before the appeal was dropped, and then came the surprise announcement that Megrahi was to be freed from prison on compassionate grounds, because of his terminal prostate cancer.

https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2018/nov/21/lockerbie-police-find-no-criminality-in-way-inquiry-was-handledDoes that mean that Megrahi was nevertheless gullty? And yes perhaps as a scapegoat, for the Kadhafi men? A bit as the murder of the Saudi man in the Turkish embassy, with figures condemned, while the real culprits remain free, because of the politics between the US and the Saudis?
Kind regards from your friend Paul.
