I don't know where to post. It is a Dutch series: In Europe.

Occasionnaly I saw now that there were already six episodes with english subtitles.

It is a VPRO series, that means in my humble opinion that there is a "leftist" approach, but nevertheless I find it very interesting as for the treasure of original footage and personal comments from people who lived in those periods or had known people who did that.

Have a look to the bottom of the site...

Interesting links Paul. Thanks for posting them.

I don't know why the thread is entitled '1900-1930' because the links seem to go up to at least 1942 and potentially right up to 1992. But thanks again.

Vizzer,

of course you are right. I become a bit negligent in my hurry Embarassed . First I saw only four with English subtitles up to the thirties in Berlin. And so edited already my title. But when I saw the site again I saw that it were already six with English subtitles and up to 1942. And as it was already that early in the morning I didn't adjust the title anymore...Embarassed

I am a bit "überfragt" (to much solicited? Hmm, saw also in my dictionary "solicite" asking for sex in exchange of money...) nowadays.

I am since 2006 on a French history forum "Tribune Histoire" from a certain Bruno Roy Henry, a Napoleonist historian. Due to I don't what reason, this forum was fading away. Another French historian François Delpla is together with Bruno recently banned from some history forums (with about 12,000 members). Last months François Delpla leads, apart from his own forum, a parallel forum with critics on the forum Passion Histoire where he is banned. A bit as with the case of the Polish Jozef if you remember. A moderator of Passion Histoire is also together with me also member of Tribune Histoire, a certain Duc de Raguse, for whom I have a lot of esteem. But there are sour discussions on the Tribune Histoire board between François Delpla and Duc de Raguse, in which I of course don't participate. And to be honest, with all that turmoil there is a certain rennaissance of the sclerotic forum.

I made an in depth "study" Wink of the departure of the Massilia with the French government to North Africa. It is still a touchy subject in nowadays France and as I made the study on Passion Histoire I didn't receive any replies. And now has François Delpla answered in full on Tribune Histoire...and asked for my opinion on his banning from Passion Histoire...

Bruno Roy Henry has also started on his forum Tribune Histoire a controversial subject about the combativity of the Flemish and the Walloon regiments during May 1940 during the 18 days campaign...The autority that he cites is a Belgian, who wants Wallonia to adhere to France...

I studied already the question in depth, but I suppose that I will need all my tact to lead the discussion on "good" paths...As that subject is that specific, it is perhaps only me and some competent non biased historians who can comment on the subject. And I suspect Bruno Roy Henry to have started the link to lurr me again on his siteHistory of Europe 1900-1930. 650269930 ...since some month or two no one from the Belgians of the forum of WWII has (I suppose due to the minefield of the subject) commented...

Kind regards and with esteem,

Paul.

Addendum to the previous message.

OOPS I see now rereading my message, that there is some ambiguity in my text:

François Delpla leads a parallel forum on the forum Tribune Histoire of Bruno Roy Henry with critics on the forum Passion Histoire...where he is banned...

Regards, Paul.

Paul, thanks for posting those "In Europe" links... I enjoyed them immensely, particularly for the original pictures and footage, quite a lot of which I do not think I had seen before.

I did think it was at times a bit simplistic or even flipant in its approach ... (surely there were many more causes for the 14/18 war than just: "Germany had built up a big army and navy and so wanted to use it", etc). But, then again if we are talking "soundbites", I did particularly like comment by the grandson of assassinated Franz-Ferdinand on the cause of the war: "Negligence and Nonchalance", amongst all the heads of state and their military advisors. The alliteration works very well in English but he was speaking in German and I didn't catch what he actually said.

(And incidentally the series is also very good for my Flemish... Yes I know the presenter is Dutch but, and I may well be wrong and so upset many people, but I think he speaks with a softer accent which to me sounds almost Flemish. He certainly doesn't have the same accent as my friends from Amsterdam... it's much more like my friends from Dendemonde in Belgium. Please correct me if I am wrong.)

Meles meles,

thanks for the interest. Yes the speaker don't use the harsh Dutch, but for a Flemish Belgian it is definitely Dutch from the Netherlands, from the first word he says...History of Europe 1900-1930. 650269930...it has mostly to do with the pronounciation of the vowels...yes and also some consonants...History of Europe 1900-1930. 650269930 ...

But there are as for the episode of WWI several Flemish speaking people interviewed...and again from the first word they speak you can hear that they are Flemish even when they speak "standard Dutch".

The harsh Dutch, especially for the "h" is a constant stress for the vocal cords...but perhaps as they are trained from infancy on....they haven't constantly a sore throut...History of Europe 1900-1930. 650269930 ...

English is in my opinion a bit the soft way as the Flemish...even the Margaret Thatcher English...

Kind regards and with esteem,

Paul.
