In December 2011 the British Broadcasting Company declared history was over. Well not quite, but they did pull the plug on a much cherished facility on their website whereby people with an interest in history could discuss, debate and argue topics to their hearts' content (though within moderation of course and not overnight if you lived anywhere near the prime meridian).

As a response to this closure, and to the disappointment felt by many of its users in its wake, some of us decided to attempt to design a new "home" for devotees of historical debate - one which might match in tone and spirit the old abode - and which might also, with a bit of luck and application, emulate some day what the BBC History messageboard provided in its time; a community for which the bond is a love of history; a bond which not only sparks lively conversation, but also debate which can be as humorous as it is informative, and (most importantly) as diverse as its many contributors.

To all of you history lovers - old friends and new - who wish to participate in this debate we wish you heartily welcome!
