The Hesse Crown Jewels heist Empty
PostSubject: The Hesse Crown Jewels heist   The Hesse Crown Jewels heist EmptyTue 03 Sep 2019, 18:57

Throughout history soldiers have helped themselves to the riches of their foes. Indeed, the promise of booty was long the primary reason men went to war, their desire to acquire by theft what they’d never attain by rank or merit driving them to risk their lives in conflicts whose moral or political goals held little interest.

And although they authorities concerned  did find and prosecuted those involved  there still seems to be talk that part of the jewels were buried in Virginia (USA) and to date has not been discovered.

Anyway , why not read through the links mentioned below and draw your own conclusion.

That's an interesting read, Dirk.

It reads as a real "Krimi" as the Germans say

Kind regards from Paul.

Coincidentally Virginia is also the location of a library containing a book which throws light on the mystery surrounding the fate of some items from Алмазный фонд (Almazny Fond) or the Diamond Fund, the collective name for the Russian crown jewels housed in the Kremlin. The book supposedly dating from 1922 shows photographs of the collection which includes items missing from a later official inventory published in 1925. That fact alone might raise doubts about the authenticity of the book or else suggests that items have indeed gone missing:

The Mysterious Disappearance of the Russian Crown Jewels

Part of the Diamond Fund also apparently spent over a quarter of a century in Ireland, part of that time bricked up in the fireplace of a Dublin townhouse:

How the Russian crown jewels went from the Romanovs to Harry Boland's family home in Dublin

Some items however still remain unaccounted for.
