I think it's co-incidence, Dirk (about the curse and the Nazis attempting to take over Russia).  Though as you say it's a not disinteresting read.  There's probably been a number of such co-incidences over the years. Offhand I think of the story that the templar Jacques de Molay allegedly told Philippe Le Bel that his (Philippe's) house would be accursed.  I liked Maurice Druon's series of books The Accursed Kings but whatever Jacques de Molay said at his immolation was likely co-incidence unless the story is apocryphal.
