A common misconception is that medieval kings were dictators wielding absolute power over their subjects. In reality, their authority was far less than that of modern presidents or governors. My latest article explores the extent of a medieval king's restricted power and highlights how weak and powerless they often were.

It may be a common misconception in the USA but I am not convinced that it is in Britain.  We do not have a president in charge and nor do we have any state governors but, unlike the USA, we have had a lot of medieval kings.

How many state governors or USA presidents when president have personally commanded the main American army?

Perhaps that is so, I have heard others say the same.

True that we don't have governors rule our armies, and that is one of the reasons why we have more devastating wars!
