| You’ll have to do better than that children, if it helps I’ll remove my collar and tie and allow you to go straight for the jugular… if it amuses you as seems the case, however I’m very disappointed as I’d held you with a lot higher esteem than you now display… ah well, we live and learn…. |

| Norm, what 's wrong? Is this because Nordmann tidied up the site by clearing away the old, dead quizzes because if it is, I think you've not only picked up the wrong end of the stick but are now chewing at it and making yourself ill. I can't find his post but IIRC, his point was that because of the popularity and the large number of responses to the quizzes, the statistics of the site might give casual visitors an erroneous idea of its content. It most certainly wasn't a criticism of you or anyone else, rather the reverse. He couldn't be complaining about people starting quizzes anyway since he's started more than anyone else. I know you've said you're feeling a bit raw these days and god knows, given what you've been going through, I'm sure we all sympathise so perhaps I and we have been a bit insensitive. If so, I apologise. Please come back, we miss you and you're probably the only one who can answer Gil's latest quiz. I know all the nice girls are meant to like a sailor but this one is none too enamoured with impenetrable nautical jargon! |

| Oh for god's sake, this is ridiculous. I've tried defending you and (twice) attempted to tease and jolly you out of it but on all occasions you have chosen to take it the wrong way, rather than accept it in the genuine manner in which it was intended. I'm done with it. |

Never wise to have a huff when we're feeling raw, Norm. Believe me, I know! I hoped you'd join us girls at the temple - we're not a wild, abandoned lot really, you know - we're all actually very sedate and you would be quite safe. Vests, stringy or otherwise, aren't compulsory (but clothes are, whatever Nordmann may suggest.) Shall I clean the bar for you for a day or two - until you're back to your old self? |

| No, I just found some widgets that linked to interesting stuff and thought I'd stick them up there. Then I found I could make one myself for Res Historica, so it's there too if anyone wants to copy it over on to their own website (one lives in hope). |

| I'll be away on hols for the next few weeks so I've roped ferval and ID in as mods (well, dragged them in kicking and screaming more likely). If Gil ever gets back online that'll be three with mod status - handy if you need double posts deleted etc.
I'll drop in sporadically so if anyone needs help with anything just contact me by PM and I'll get round to it, I promise! |

| For those who like this kind of thing: The above map shows Res Historica's conquest of the world (the shades of green indicate the location of people who have browsed this site in the last 30 days). A summary of activity reveals: The site was visited 3,447 times during this period. On average each visitor viewed 7.68 pages while they were here. On average each visitor hung around for about 16 minutes. During that time 15.58% of all those who visited were brand new, the rest had been before. Res Historica had a 31% bounce rate in those 30 days - that means that 69% were human and interested in reading more. The rest were made up of robots and occasional humans who wandered in in error or (perish the thought) didn't like what they found. |

| I note the above with interest and wonder why the - for instance Bolivians are showing no interest.
Do the pale areas indicate better TV than ours, perhaps? Regards, and a further thanks for making the site possible in the first place. P. |

| I like the map's projection - a sort of maxi-magnified-mercator - it makes the British Isles to be at least a quarter the size of the Indian sub-continent!
I can understand the green tint of English speaking countries... but I'm surprised by the interest shown by Argentines, Brazillians, Peruvians and Columbians, .... but as you say P no Bolivians. Do the former countries have large English or American communities? In contrast Spain, with many ex British all along the costas, just ain't interested at all. |

| When the antispamming thing kicked in a while back we lost interest from Russian and Chinese quarters for some strange reason.
This is just the last 30 days - over the months African countries have been fairly well represented. Nigeria especially. Seems we might be big amongst their many royals with no ready access to their bank accounts. |

| I have yet to try out a laptop I brought from abroad. Using that one there I was denied access - whatever I did to copy the verification 'password' jumbles etc. However, had no probs as soon as I got this one here recharged. We have prejudiced 'guardians' perhaps. I wonder how the Bolivians offended?
In the pages of daily web stats of my website it is amusing to see how many searches have 'women' in the Google search. I cannot see how long is spent per browse - not in minutes per individual - though the several graphs of when and what are fascinating. Mine's not a busy site, ley's be honest, bu it averages out to 10 hits per hour. Of these I reckon from the identification addresses 3 are robot. |

If you use it in England it will have a new IP address. That should be enough to circumvent any previous lockout problems at the hands of the spammer blocker Forumotion uses. Lockouts are performed against IP addresses, not individual machines. |

| To ID. P does not stand for Phillipa - or PG's tips either.
Possibly my erratic spelling is because I have not noticed different keyboards. Touch typing has its disadvantages then.
I swear by Dvorak - and several other people quite a lot, actually, Gill.
Now I ought try the other laptop to see if my IP addtess works yet. This is ridiculous. I am beginning to hate webs. I put a hose on full power on a spider web across the garden and the water only went through; the spider didn't budge either. So I swiped it with one finger - and swore by Dvorak and Miss Muffet too. |

| Once, when I couldn't type straight onto a board and use the pound symbol - as I still can't - someone suggested I download a new keyboard from the internet. I didn't understand doing this at the time, and still don't. How would I use a downloaded keyboard? Would I have to type straight onto the computer? It doesn't bother me that much not be able to do a few symbols. He said there were lots of different keyboards I could download. |

| Way back when, I learnt on a QWERTY Olivetti typewriter, non-electric to strengthen the fingers, with a cloth over the top of the hands and keys to learn not to look when typing.
I couldn't image typing on anything else but QWERTY now, having to re-learn key placement and all those boring hours of practicing long rows of aaaaaa, cccccc or whatever so it becomes automatic would go down the drain. Ugh.
PS Not to mention having to do speed and accuracy tests again. Double ugh. |

| More from the stats department:
This is a list of the top 94 favourite pages over the last 30 days. The first bit is the name of the individual page - so multi-page threads can show up several times on the list. The gobbledygook before the pagename is the unique identifier assigned by Forumotion. The first numeric figure is the total number of views in that time. The second is the number of unique visits - I'm not quite sure what this means but I reckon very little.
Some surprises there, at least to me ...

| It means the time you (or anyone) has accessed the website apparently. This means that the two figures can be interpreted in the following way:
For; 89. /t23-philippa-gregory-should-she-be-shot 24 17
Can be read; This page in the "Philippa Gregory Should She Be Shot" thread was viewed 24 times in the course of 17 visits by people to this site (meaning one or maybe more people displayed the page several times within one visit) |

| Another little tidbit from Google - there are over a thousand of these but here are the top 50 queries over the last 30 days which caused Res Historica to show up as a result of a query. Some of the punters came in (the second figure) and had a look. I notice that of those which feature cats in their search none actually came in and had a gander. Wonder why? Maybe we must up the ante somewhat? Perhaps time to open a thread on the development of the Medial Internmediate Longitudinal Fasciculus and just refer to it in acronym?

| Good grief, you're right Nordmann. That pussie thread is attracting every person and his dog searching for p*rn! Maybe the title should be changed... |

| You're missing the point - it didn't attract them at all.

| One evening, when I was deeply, deeply bored, I tried googling 'history forum' and 'history discussion forum' and ploughed through umpteen pages looking for RH. I gave up. Is there any way to give us a more prominent profile for people seeking a place like this? |

| Does the fact that the pussy thread is in the Eagle and thing area make a difference?
It may not have been on this board that I mentioned milf recently - it was on the television programme Stella (on at 7.30pm), and I didn't know what it meant. My husband wouldn't tell me and didn't think I should google it. But he did mention mothers, so I could work it out for myself. |

| Yes - I had a few on the "shortcuts" page for a while but they screwed it up in certain browser formats so I dropped them. |

| Nordmann, is it possible to have a history of science category on the home page?
I'm thinking of begining a medicine in history topic but can't see a section where it would be suitable. Technology and Human Invention possibly, but it isn't quite that either, although related I suppose. What say you? |

| I agree - I'll stick a health&medicine type category up somewhere suitable!
edit: done! |

| Just to say that I like the 'new look.' is this a seasonal thing that overcomes you, sir?
Member's avators changing too - not compulsary is it? Or have they all stopped taking their medication? |

| That diamond/Star/Dazzling Bright Light is confusing me. I keep expecting to see three camels sneaking in at the bottom of the banner thing. |

| We have new (upside down triangle) buttons to report posts now? Or have they always been there and I've not noticed before? That's always possible.... |

| Think they were always there. They have been for me in any case. And I did actually have a post reported once too - I won't say who did it or who was reported but I gave everyone the benefit of the doubt and put it down to butterfingers. |
