Well then there are at least two Germans famous for their magnolias .... Sprenger's magnolia, Magnolia sprengeri,  is named after the German botanist Carl Ludwig Sprenger.

Founded in 1859 by Sheffield born businessman, Henry Shaw, the Missouri Botanical Garden, in St Louis, was established on what was then open prairie:

With all the hullabaloo about statues in Virginia at the moment, here is what the Hungarians did with their "no longer required" monuments:

Whilst in Budapest in June, I was impressed by the way local guides spoke of their time of communist rule - especially the youg ones born into it. They all mentioned the statue park and said it was a healthy reminder of bad times.It is a very grown up sort of attitude to have kept them thus, I think. In like wise style, murdered revolutionaries and Jews are honoured in displays in gardens about the city.

And what a beautiful, extraordinarily elegant, eloquent statement it is, too - each leaf a life taken, I think.

Built by eccentric Latvian immigrant, Edward Leedskalnin, between 1928 and his death in 1951, Coral Castle ( aka Rock Gate ) has been the subject of speculation in the method of construction, from alien technology to anti- gravitation devices.

The reality, hard graft and block and tackle, is much less fun.

Coral (actually mostly limestone) Castle is still a major tourist attraction in Florida:

Less well known than Versailles, the Chateau de Chantilly house the largest art collection in France after the Louvre:

Bargh-e-Babur, the Gardens of Babur in Kabul, have survived despite almost 40 years of continual conflict;

Shalimar/Shalamar Gardens

During his adventures in the Punjab, Flashman pays a brief visit to the Shalimar Gardens near Lahore.

The Gardens were laid out in the 17th century by Shah Jahan, the same boyo who built the Taj Mahal.

They are now a World Heritage Site.

There is another Shalimar Garden in Srinagar, Kashmir, built by the Mughal Emperor Jahangir.
