Well then there are at least two Germans famous for their magnolias .... Sprenger's magnolia, Magnolia sprengeri, is named after the German botanist Carl Ludwig Sprenger.

Whilst in Budapest in June, I was impressed by the way local guides spoke of their time of communist rule - especially the youg ones born into it. They all mentioned the statue park and said it was a healthy reminder of bad times.It is a very grown up sort of attitude to have kept them thus, I think. In like wise style, murdered revolutionaries and Jews are honoured in displays in gardens about the city.
