| The Daily mail today has a couple of columns that caught my attention on royalty - for a change.
In brief it outlines the hair line cracks in all the talk about 3 kings in waiting; should anything dire happen to Prince Charles whilst his mother reigns then the crown passes to his brother the Duke of York -(cheers from the white rose corner?) and in turn thence to his daughter Bea - the daft wedding hat one - following the latest laws on succession mmmm. Apart from good grief anyone anything else to say on this? Or did the DM get it wrong - this is possible. |

| As far as I am aware Priscilla the line of succession is
Charles William George Harry
then
Andrew Beatrice Eugene
The eldest son's (in the futire eldest child's) children take precidence over a brother. For example Henry VI suceeded Henry V and not the duke of Bedford, Henry V's brother. When Edward III died the throne passed to his grandson Richard II, whose father Edward the Blackprince had already died, and not to John of Gaunt, who was the eldest surviving brother of the Blackprince.
The Daily Mail is, I belive, talking rubbish, and there would be a complet panic in the royal family if there was any danger of Andrew and then Beatrice succeeding to the thrown.
Peter Philips at No 12 is currently the first commoner to be in the line of succession
regards

| The Daily Mail is indeed an unreliable organ. I peruse it online every day and am consequently an expert on who from TOWIE is "lovin' her curves". Wiki is not always reliable either, I know, but here is the relevant entry for the new Succession Act: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Succession_to_the_Crown_Act_2013We need have no fear - Bea of the odd chapeaux will never be queen. According to Wiki, Tane Mahuta Lewis is the first boy to suffer displacement. Who? He was numero 26, but is now numero 27, which is probably a very good thing: King Tane, or, even worse, King Mahuta, would never do. But Tane M. was born in 2012 and, as the Act apparently will not apply retrospectively, he surely still gets to be king ahead of his sister, Senna (born 2010). Queen Senna - another odd name. Why would anyone name their daughter, a possible heiress to the British throne, after a laxative? I am very confused by it all. I am feeling paranoid about being boring today, but will post this anyway. There is no one around, so I'll only be boring myself. EDIT: Little Tane Mahuta Lewis is the son of this lady. He was named after a forest in New Zealand which perhaps Caro will confirm for us when she returns. The Lady Davina Elizabeth Alice Benedikte Lewis (née Windsor; born 19 November 1977) is the elder daughter of Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester and the Duchess of Gloucester, and is in the line of succession to the British Throne. |

| I hope this really is as I supposed a DM daft story - though I wonder if the royal family ever play Happy Families - with an in house pack version? Inheritance is the joker in most family games.... of the 'who got the silver spoons then?' type. Much is being made of inherited wealth in 'The White Queen' - was Ann Neville due a windfall?
And I never quite understood the Tudor claim to the throne either. |

| a) Yes, she was. b) They had no claim. PS Did you see the DM article on the Princess Royal's clothes? She is a very thrifty lady, but Lord some of those outfits are a bit outré. The rhubarb and custard dress was particularly striking. Will try to post a pic. Off topic, but who cares (it is from the Mail, so it is actually vaguely on topic). |

| The scrambled egg hat: first worn for the wedding in 1981 and then trotted out again for some other posh nuptials in 2008. I'd have bought a new one - and a new frock. Right, that's quite enough from me. Over and out. |

| Good grief, that first pic of Anne looks more like Charles in drag. I do rather like Anne though, she's the pick of a bad bunch. |

| True - she is a very down-to-earth lady, and it is rather unfair to pass judgement on her dress sense. I'm sure she wouldn't give a hoot anyway.
Her comment on the Royal Birth made us all laugh: "It's nothing to do with me." She did add, however, "But it's very good news."

| Good gracious Temp, your rhubarb must be a most peculiar colour.
She's won a fair few friends up here by her staunch support for our rugby team. That at least demonstrates her resilience and eternal optimism. |

| Interesting. Our feisty site women here like her when most others elsewhere don't. I await retractment of the DMail heir theory - or perhaps there has been one and I missed it. Must read my chip paper more carefully in future. |

| "Feisty" is such an interesting euphemism - covers a multitude of sins. This is one of the headlines in the Mail this morning: Half-naked woman, 38, became impaled on railings after jumping from window when former security guard, 63, attacked her with a coathanger after they had sex.Good grief - I live out of the world and am often astonished at what I hear (or read in the Daily Mail). There is also an article today on the benefits of broccoli - "the wonder vegetable". I shall read that, rather than the story of the unfortunate half-naked lady. I do hope they got her safely off the railings. Will now revert to sensible mode and attempt to say something intelligent about the cult of Henry VI. |

| I've searched in vain for the Daily Mail article which inspired this thread. I have, however, found this very useful "Guide to the new order of succession to the British throne" which the Mail has thoughtfully provided for its readers (before little Georgie was named - he's still Prince X here). It is tastefully presented in scroll form for you all to print off and cherish forever . http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2361666/Royal-baby--whos-line-Guide-new-line-succession-British-throne.htmlWiki was wrong about young Tane Mahuta. He does not appear on the scroll (born just before the Act became law - shame): his sister Senna Pod is in at number 27. |

| Monday 29th for that DM article, temps - beside a formal group pic of The Yorks. Perhaps we don't get the same news - I couldn't find the one about the woman 38/window/coathanger story. |

| Temp, Tane Mahuta is the name of a tree, not the forest it is in. It is the largest living kauri tree and very valued. A tourist attraction as well as a Maori taonga (treasure). I have a photo with me standing in front of it, but will send this one (hopefully - photobucket seemed to do odd things today). What I am very surprised at is that the news of this name and its NZ connections didn't seem to make it to our media. Perhaps I just missed it, but I owuld have thought royalty (even if minor) calling their son this would have attracted some attention. In fact I would have thought anyone calling their son this would have attracted attention. Tane is the god of the forest. |

| This article from The New Zealand Herald is intriguing - Royal family tree branches out. I like the picture featuring the future Lewis dynasty of New Zealand with the future Phillips dynasty of Canada. All that's missing are the Donaldson de Laborde family of Australia. The article says that 'no New Zealander can ever aspire to be head of state' and yet with Senna Kowhai and Tane Mahuta there are at least 2. And that, of course, is not to forget Tuheitia Paki - the Maori king. |

| That was interesting, Vizzer, if a little tongue-in-cheek at times. Also explains to some degree why I hadn't seen anything about this. The Herald is perhaps the main NZ paper, being Auckland's paper, but it isn't owned by Fairfax media, and Fairfax owns most papers in NZ (including the one I write for) and has the main news site here, stuff.co.nz But they don't bother so much on this site, which is my home page, with news taken from either the Herald or the Otago Daily Times, which is independently owned, and whose owner, recently knighted, has hung on there resisting notions of selling and managing somehow these days to extend their readership and subscriptions. I suppose this news about the baby's name was tucked away somewhere on stuff.co.nz but I missed it. I think I did read once about the Maori/British royalty marriage, but it had skipped out of my mind, as so much does. This http://www.stuff.co.nz/life-style/life/9002839/A-guide-to-British-royal-titles enticed us by asking if Kate Middleton was really a princess, but I felt its answer to this was a little vague. I shouldn't call her Princess Catherine which I do at times, not liking the informal and outdated Kate Middleton, but she is Prince William of Wales. I've never quite understood Princess Michael of Kent and feel a bit aggrieved that she never seems to get her real name (what is it?). However no-one is going to call the Duchess of Cambridge Princess William. I hope. |

| Must be wrong dates - and am not sure if other definitions correct either. The ticket office is where the old waiting room used to be, I think, which might account for the body count. Otherwise an interesting find and a better DM story than usual; I couldn't find out from the article who they were blaming. |
