The secrets of the Parthenon Empty
PostSubject: The secrets of the Parthenon   The secrets of the Parthenon EmptySun 26 Nov 2017, 23:22

I have seen today this documentary about the unbelievable construction methods of the Greek Athenians...I have seen the same extraordinary skils about the medieval cathedral building but that was some centuries before...
It is in French, but one can chose subtitles as I sometimes do to better follow the French spoken...
Meles meles and Hattie?
And for Nielsen I found it in German too...

OOPS and by the title on the French version I found that it was Original an English language PBS...

Tomorrow more comments...and as it is now in English Wink ...I am waiting for some comments from you too Wink

Kind regards from Paul.

The secrets of the Parthenon Empty
PostSubject: Re: The secrets of the Parthenon   The secrets of the Parthenon EmptyMon 27 Nov 2017, 22:14

Some interesting discoveries during the restauration of the Parthenon that I remember from the film about the many:

one thought that it was the "golden ratio" (about 1.6) that was used, but one found also the ratio 4 to 9...
some found a comparing table about the several length measurements they used as the several "feets" the Doric one and so on
nobody understood how they did this complex work in such a short time...and again they found answers why and how...have it all to seek back in the English version....
and the use of body parts to express a measurement...
and the trick to use a curbed line to see it because of the perspective as a right one...unbelievable...some 2300 years ago

a "magnifique" documentary in my eyes...

Kind regards from Paul.
