Today it was announced that the first few exhibits from the British Museum from many more to come (50,000 objects is the plan) are now available for viewing via the Google Culture portal. I'm taking it the Elgin Marbles won't to be too quick making an appearance however ...
(Click on Tom Stoney's watercolour showing the Waterloo battlefield two days after Napoleon's defeat to open a link to the BM in Google Culture)Google Culture is already so choc-a-bloc with stuff that it has become a dangerous spot for browsers, the unsuspecting can come in looking for a simple piece of Byzantine jewellery and end up three days later immersed in some dead pope's private art collection having absorbed some 10,000 years of artefacts in between. But it's a brilliant resource and well worth the risk!
BTW: The BM's own website isn't too bad either!
5 Million (!!!!!) objects have already been available over the years to view here.
