Currently reading "Action Starboard" by Geoffrey Brooke.
Geoffrey Brooke was a gunnery officer on HMS Prince of Wales, was present at the Battle of Denmark Strait and the her sinking off Kuantan. He also served in Singapore right up to the evacuation. A fairly large part of the book is about what happened during the fall of Singapore and his escape to the Dutch East Indies and eventually to Sri Lanka.
I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in the Singapore catastrophe, as its a "warts and all" account.
What's clear is the fact that the British Empire in the Far East was woefully under prepared, under armed and that some of their numbers underestimated their enemy.
This isn't a sales pitch! Its just been a fascinating read!
