Did anyone go?

I baulked at queing so only saw the SKY Arts Tour filmed just before opening. Did anyone else watch that? The main paintings - apart from the new one - were all very familiar and seen before anyway(not the Lady and Ermine but familiar enough. I was for the drawings I would have gone. The programme only showed a few cartoons and drawings that I know very well. It was for the lesser known I would have sought out. I need to grt to the Nat Gal. to see a catalogue. I was less disapponted after seeing the programme. At the Leonardo permanent museum in Tuscany I probably saw (as copies) a wider selection. I bought two excellent large prints there that now dominaye my living room and which awe visitors because they have never seen them before.

If anyone went, please tell me about it.

I did see the fairly recent Michelangelo exhibition at the NG. Though loving his other work I am at one with Leonardo about his muscular male drawings... he likened them to - I think as cats fighting in a sack. There was so much veneration about me at the viewing there that I kept my mouth closed for a change lest I was thumped to death with peoples' audio guides. Funny about the drawings because his statues and paintings are far more subtle.

I don't like Michaelangelo's drawings nor his paintings very much. The Sistine Chappel (for example) is the early version of Body Builders Weekly, everything is too overdone and exaggerated.

The Julian Fellowes of the art world? You could be right.

I like what I see of his landscape work - regardless of how it was accomplished.... most art is but an exercise in using any method to hand to construct a piece.

It is not so much what he has done - or how - this time but why he has chosen those subjects.

There was no such wondering at the Lucian Freud exhibition; he clearly liked the naked bodies of all women and big fat ones in particular.

It must have been the child bearing hips on the big fat ones, Lucian Freud apparently had 15 children. Two children born to the first marriage and the other 13 to various mistresses. He liked to spread himself around.......
