Sad news that Time Team has been consigned to the rubbish heap. Even if Tony Robinson was slighty irritating at times, for almost 20 years the show has bought into every home a connection to our past through archaeology and history.

What was your favourite or most memorable episode?

Can't say that I've watched the program much in recent years but I remember a classic episode coming from Bawsey St James in Norfolk:

I can't believe that that's 13 years ago. In fact 1999 seemed to be a vintage year for Time Team because a couple of months later there was the controversial Seahenge program (also from Norfolk) although in that program the Time Team were there only there in an observational role.

I have very mixed feelings about the end of TT, I've slagged it often but there's no question as to how important it has been in raising the public profile of the discipline and the number of people it has encouraged to take it up. If nothing else, it gave a more realistic portrait of the trials as well as the joys of digging since it showed that sometimes there is not a lot to find and also that it's often not the big, spectacular remains that are the most revealing but the small, mundane items that can illuminate the past.

Good grief, I can now make pictures appear without even knowing I'm doing it? Seriously, thanks Nordmann, I didn't think of including that.

I really enjoyed the episodes about the parts of history that we rarely hear much about, like this one in Govan, Glasgow

That episode is a favourite of mine, largely because I know several of the participants. Steve Driscoll is now Professor of Historical Archaeology at Glasgow and I was blethering to Bob Wills at a conference just a week or so ago.

The dig was filmed on the weekend of an England-Scotland football match and Carenza had to be vigorously dissuaded from going to watch it in a Govan pub.

There's a classic bit of religious idiocy during the twelfth minute, and a very understated but clever reply from Robin Bush.
