Why didn't the ancient Greeks just turn Pankration into a literal gladiator sport where they kill each other since ancient Pankration was super barbaric and brutal?
Seriously, an ancient Greek Pankration fighter with broken snapped fingers is useless and has no reason to live. He can't go to war because he can't hold a sword or a spear. He wouldn't even be able to do simple daily tasks such as holding a cup of water, etc.
He's just better off dead.
Plus, people have to feed him, cloth him, and take care of him while he doesn't contribute to anything.
Basically, he's a freeloader. Just kill him.
I heard that all ancient Greeks participated in hardcore brutal Pankration because they want to ensure that they're soldiers are extremely skilled at unarmed hand-to-hand combat. Pretty understandable.
Since every Greek in a typical ancient Greek city-state was an ancient Greek Pankration fighter, then why didn't all ancient Greek rulers of all ancient Greek city-states just create and enforce a law that all ancient Greeks within their own city-states should form gangs to wage bloody lethal gang wars against each other?
