If it's split up on YouTube it's best to make a playlist there first and then link to the first clip. Otherwise you eat up space here.
Note to self: Housekeeping long overdue here ...

That footage from 1897 is amazing Trike, and so different from what we have come to expect these days.
Apart from the, expected, silence the camera is stationary. I kept expecting it to follow the carriages. The horses and riders on parade were also a lot more casual than today, none of that stiffness and precision. With chatting between the riders and the horses weren't nearly so well trained or behaved either.

There were a few versions of it ID, I chose the sepia footage because it seemed clearer.
This might interest you as well, a compilation of very early photographs;

Triceratops,
watched the german newsreel and did some quick research about Operation Cerberus:
they spoke about a "regierungswechsel" (a change in cabinet?). Don't find it in the English wikipedia. Perhaps was it not true and only German propaganda?
I have no time to do further research.But if you want to discuss it further here or in a new thread I am your man.
Kind regards and with esteem,
Paul.

Hello Paul,
I think the cabinet reshuffle mentioned in the newsreel had more to do with the loss of Singapore rather than the Channel Dash. Churchill's position as PM was not as secure as is generally believed,especially in February 1942, and there were rivals in the shape of Anthony Eden and Stafford Cripps.
Thank you also Per for these. Learned, although I know a lot about it, nevertheless still something...(from my studies to counter the fierce statements of the Beeb Greek forgot now his name...he was from Thessaloniki and lives now in France...he was also on Passion Histoire as "ene"...)
Kind regards and with esteem,
Paul.

There have been one or two comments in some quarters that the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympics was left wing. Here is an opening ceremony that was not left wing, the official IOC film of this event;
1936 might have been right-wing, but this one was just right embarrassing;
I love the bit when everyone hides behind giant flags (including the Welsh one for some reason) and there isn't a sinner left in the stadium, the only discernible movement being the traffic on the freeway behind. Spooky stuff.

Another spooky one, 1980 Moscow Opening Ceremony. Seems to be a cross between ancient Greece and Rome, but the women are all blonde haired and blue eyed anyway....

In contrast to the above this is not at all cheerful. Sorry. But it did rather come to mind while reading the "early balloons" thread and writing about poor Mme Blanchard.
